Our 5 Nations Native sale on March 18th have for sale, one in-calf cow from the herd of Rachael & Mervyn Garrett and if you follow UTV Rare Breed you will already recognise the Garretts. Their in-calf sale cow is priced to sell and comes with a "rare breed" quality stamp for everything that is attractive about this wonderful breed.

For the past 8 years, Rachael & Mervyn have grown their Dexter herd to 70 cattle driven mainly by the demand for high-quality grass-fed Dexter beef.

DEERPARK DAWN

Sale cow Deerpark Dawn is a beautiful, black polled, 4-year-old cow. (Herd Book Number: F64235) was scanned on 27/01/22 and was approximately 5+ months in calf to Dynamite Kasabian. Her last calf was a bull calf.

Deerpark Dawn is 100% Grass-Fed and Farm Quality Assured. Dynamite Kasabian the calf's sire is Linear Assessed as VG88. He throws good beefy calves that are easy calved and fast on their feet. Kasabian was also Reserve Breed Champion and Male Breed Champion in 2020.

Deerpark Dawn would be a fabulous addition to an existing pedigree Dexter herd or for someone new looking to get into a breed with relatively low maintenance and so much potential for a viable beef enterprise.

The experience in developing a Dexter herd would be gladly shared by Rachael & Mervyn with anyone interested in starting a new venture and what a great start this would be with the purchase of Deerpark Dawn.

Meet our sellers, who produce "wee cows, big beef"

They are Jackie & Damien Tumelty who run the award-winning Dexter Castlecreen Herd it is also Northern Ireland's only Pasture for Life Certified Dexter Farm. Castlecreen Farm is a member of the Dexter Cattle Society and their farm is certified by the Pasture-Fed Livestock Association meaning the Dexter cattle are raised 100% on pasture, 100% of the year with 0% fertilisers or pesticides.

At Castlescreen Farm Jackie & Damien put a huge effort into making their Dexter beef, the best quality and highest welfare you can get. In their own words. "We’re a wee family doing our best to produce food that delivers on taste while being kind to the planet".

Their sale bulls are of Welsh origins and are confidently being offered for sale to go on and do a fantastic job for their new owners.

CASTLESCREEN GREGORY

Castlecreen Gregory is a young 3yr old bull who was bred by our stock bull CAITLIN CATKIN JUNIOR a bull that was bred in Wales and who has bred very well for our herd with bull calves classified EX 93 and heifers VG 87.

We think Gregory has all the signs and makings of a really good herd sire and will be a great addition to any herd. His dam has bred two sons who already have become herd sires in two pedigree herds. Gregory has already females served and is proven fruitful and correct.

This is a nice young bull ready for work that we feel has a great breeding future ahead of him and are only selling him due to him being related to too many females in the herd.

CAITLIN CATKINS JUNIOR

Caitlin Catkins Junior is an exceptionally well-bred bull who has left his stamp on our herd. Dun in colour which is very rare to get full of great Welsh breeding. Classified VG 87, Breeding bull calves classified ex 93 and heifers classified VG.

There is over 100 progeny registered to him on the dexter database. He is very quiet and correct on his feet, easy to handle and a very well natured bull. He has all the great attributes a dexter should have.

We have retained a son as our new stock bull which classified ex 93 at 4 yr old and was 3rd in the senior bull show in balmoral as a 3 yr old. Coming from an FQA herd with over 140 pedigree dexters currently in our herd.
